The new La Plagne glacier gondola
If you’re booking a La Plagne ski or snowboard holiday for season 2022/23, you’ll be able to enjoy the latest of La Plagne’s investments in lift tech – namely, the new glacier gondola.
We’ve said on numerous pages on the LaPlagne360 site that some of La Plagne’s main arterial lifts were in dire need of an upgrade – for example, the Verdons Nord which is being replaced with the new high-speed Lovatière chairlift out of Plagne Centre, the old Bellecôte glacier gondola lift being replaced with this work plus the ageing Roche de Mio gondola. Well, after much deliberation on the new route, work has now finally started on the glacier replacement which should help open us this sector much more and give direct access to some of the toughest off-piste riding in La Plagne
To get a better idea of the route and the massive work involved in replacing a lift system that terminates at almost 3400m, watch the excellent YouTube video produced by talented and dedicated mountain-lover Sergeporte@yahoo.fr. As you can see, this new lift will completely transform the riding available in the glacier sector with extensive work being done to widen the La Combe red piste. The lift will also terminate at a point with incredible views over to Les Arcs and Mont Blanc adding an extra spot to see the best scenery in La Plagne – plus there’s little doubt this lift will also qualify in the best scenic lifts category.
