The Tarentaise is home to some of the world’s biggest ski resorts, but transfer time can be a deal-breaker — especially if you’re travelling with kids, you’re prone to travel sickness or you just want to maximise slope time.
The good news is, the transfer time to La Plagne from Geneva and Chambéry is shorter than many nearby areas. See the comparison tables below for transfers to other major Tarentaise resorts.

If everything runs smoothly, an average transfer to La Plagne from Geneva is usually around 2.5 to 3 hours. From Chambéry, you can often cut that down to roughly 1.5 to 2 hours.
Times vary depending on which village you’re staying in, plus traffic levels and snowfall. If you’re travelling on a busy day, check live conditions first.

Compared to many big-name Tarentaise resorts, La Plagne often comes out very favourably for transfer time — especially if you stay in the lower villages such as Champagny-en-Vanoise.
If you want to see what the journey is actually like, use our La Plagne transfer route videos to preview the roads and the final climb into resort.

Use these Geneva transfer times as a rough guide. In heavy snow or peak weeks, journeys can take longer.

Quick tip: Transfer days don’t always go to plan. Bad weather, missed connections and on-mountain accidents can all turn into expensive problems if you’re not properly covered.
Sorting insurance before you travel is one of the easiest ways to protect your trip from start to finish.
This 3D video will give you a better idea of how the Tarentaise resorts are positioned in relation to each other. Somewhat obviously, the further along the road you go, the longer the transfer. Aime-la-Plagne (the village just below La Plagne) is the first town you reach after Moûtiers which can have a huge bearing on the length of your transfer.
