La Plagne valley resorts: The lower villages of Champagny-en-Vanoise, Plagne Montalbert and Montchavin / Les Coches offer a very different experience to the high-altitude La Plagne stations. They’re more traditional, more relaxed and usually quieter at night, with a bigger focus on village life than big-resort facilities.
It’s also worth noting that access varies. Champagny sits on the far western side of the ski area, closer to the Trois Vallées resort of Courchevel than the Plagne Centre main bowl. Montchavin / Les Coches link directly to Les Arcs via the Vanoise Express while Montalbert is closer to the valley village of Aime than it is to the La Plagne altitude resorts. Consequently, bus connections are more limited than in the higher resorts (the La Plagne shuttle buses don’t operate in these villages), but in return you get tree-lined pistes, a calmer atmosphere and a genuine Alpine village feel.

Quick tip: If you are staying in Montchavin, Montalbert or Champagny, it really pays to get comfortable, confidence-building gear from the start. These resorts feel a bit different from the higher stations and often mean longer scenic runs, village-based starts and more time skiing varied terrain, so decent hire kit will make the whole trip feel smoother.
Booking online before you arrive usually means better prices, better choice and much less faff on day one.

Quick tip: Valley resorts often feel calmer and more traditional, but that can hide the fact that you may cover a lot of ground and ski in more varied conditions through the day. That is great for a different kind of La Plagne trip, but it also means proper insurance is worth sorting before you travel.
Good cover can help with mountain rescue, medical costs and the wider disruption if a fall or collision cuts your trip short.
