It’s been a huge week for snowfall across the region (well over 1 metre in places). That kind of loading has pushed avalanche risk up fast and, at points, even forced resort closures. Val / Tignes aren’t La Plagne, but they sit just over the ridge from Paradiski and the wider weather pattern is often close enough to be mostly applicable for La Plagne trip planning.

- Big snowfall totals mean rapid changes in stability, especially off-piste.
- Wind effect and loading can make conditions wildly different from one aspect to the next.
- On-piste conditions are likely excellent, but don’t risk backcountry riding until the conditions calm. It’s worth remembering, a huge percentage of avalanches are caused just off pisted runs. After the number of avalanche deaths in recent weeks, it’s simply not worth it. Wait until the resort deems it safe and, even then, make sure you go with a guide and have the correct kit, knowledge and skills.
