The return of TdF to La Plagne

The Tour de France returns to La Plagne: The 2025 Tour de France will make a welcome return to La Plagne Paradiski in 2025 hosting the final mountain stage of the event before the riders head to the Nantua > Pontarlier 185 km stage and then onto the finale in Paris. With the Tour already well underway, it’s time to start looking forward to its mighty return to La Plagne.

La Plagne wins the coveted final mountain stage
Although stopping many times in the Savoie region in recent years, the Tour de France hasn’t featured La Plagne as a stage since 2002. This year, the Tour will feature two back-to-back Savoie mountain stages:
– On July 18th, the riders will face a long, tough mountain route between Vif and Courchevel’s famed Col de la Loze – a 171 km stage.
– The next day on the 19th, the Tour will start from Albertville taking a circuitous route towards the Italian border before dropping back down into the Isère valley and Bourg-St-Maurice. From here, the road should seem familiar to Paradiski visitors as it starts the climb from Aime up to La Plagne. The race will finish on the stretch of road up to Plagne Villages from Plagne Centre across from Plagne Soleil.
A fitting final mountain stage?
While the La Plagne stage and the route up to the station certainly won’t compare to the likes of the legendary climbs of Alpe d’Huez or the equally imposing Lacets de Montvernier, there’s still no denying the challenge posed by this 130km route.

Can anyone beat the mighty Pogacar?
Given his epic form in last month’s Criterium de Dauphiné, it would take a brave bet to back anyone other than Tadej Pogacar. Indeed, at time of writing, the much vaunted Slovenian rider has already stomped his mark on the tour, taking three jerseys in stage four.
Many are already comparing Pog to the legendary Eddie Merckx while Mark Cavendish must already be wondering if his record 35 stage wins title might soon be under threat. Pogacar is a machine and it’s hard to see past him taking his fourth General Classification win when the Tour returns to Paris on the 27th July for the 21st and final stage. Expect to see Pogacar feature heavily in the La Plagne stage – after all, it’s widely acknowledged the Tour is won and lost in the mountains and Pog remains head and shoulders above his rivals when it comes to digging deep on the climbs. That said, don’t fully discount the likes of Jonas Vingegaard, Remco Evenepoel, João Almeida (highly unlikely considering his place as a domestique in the UAE team) or even Primož Roglič.
2025 Tour de France final Paris stage
It’s worth noting this year’s final stage in Paris will see the inclusion of a detour through Montmartre and a route inspired by the road race of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Unlike the traditional final day procession into Paris, this year we’ll see the addition of the cobbled climb up the Sacré-Cœur Basilica. The riders will tackle this climb three times before heading back to the more familiar Champs-Élysées finale and the sprint finish.
