NOTE: The Grande Rochette lift Verdons Nord chair was replaced in the 2021/2022 season. We will try to update the information below soon. The replacement chair – La Lovatière – looks something like this.

Verdons Nord was probably the slowest lift in La Plagne – or, at least, it was certainly the one most in need of renovation considering the distance it covered. In mid-winter, this lift could get seriously cold as it’s frequently in shade so was normally best avoided in bad weather.

On the front side of the mountain, the new Lovatière accesses the Verdons blue piste and Mercédès black piste while, over the back, it also links into many Champagny sector runs including the Kamikaze red, Bosses black, Hara-Kiri red and Bozelet blue including Mont de la Guerre red. In other words, it accesses some of the best intermediate skiing and snowboarding in La Plagne and some of the best advanced skiing and snowboarding in La Plagne.

As all these runs are accessible from the much quicker Verdons Sud chair anyway, our advice would be to maximise your ski and snowboard time and take the Funiplagne to Gd Rochette then link down to the Verdons Sud on the multitude of runs that flow down to its base – a better option than sitting on this long, cold lift which is also prone to stopping.

Pros
  • Accesses good runs
  • Never gets too busy
  • Great off-piste at the top
  • Gives routes over to Champagny
  • Only direct access to Les Verdons from Centre
Cons
  • It can get very cold
  • Lift is seriously slow
