The small village of La Roche sits in a valley on the Plagne 1800 site on the main road up to the resort, overlooking the world-famous Olympic bobsleigh track built for the 1992 Albertville Olympic games. As development space runs out higher up the hill, the managing body behind La Plagne is starting to look further down the hill for alternative sites for accommodation. Consequently, there is now a far greater range of (mostly) chalet-type lodging available here and in the areas around Plangagnant and Les Charmettes – each of which is linked to Plagne Centre by free bus. For skiing and snowboarding, the Roche chairlift is one of the fastest in La Plagne and takes riders direct to Aime 2000 where it’s possible to access all the other main resorts.
