The Tarentaise region of France is renowned for having some of the world’s best and biggest ski and snowboard areas. However, when coming to choose which resort to visit, you might want to take into account the transfer times from the most popular airports of Geneva and Chambéry – particularly if you’re travelling with kids or you’re not particularly good on buses or in taxis. It’s also worth remembering it’s possible to take the train to La Plagne from Geneva or Chambéry, which can often cut out the frequent delays on congested roads around the area. We’ve also got a guide for Lyon airport to La Plagne. Using these options, you can easily hook into the Aime to La Plagne bus service and thereafter the La Plagne shuttle bus network.

La Plagne transfers

Thankfully a La Plagne ski or snowboard holiday has one of the shortest ski airport transfers of all the region’s ski resorts. When you look at an overhead map of the area, it’s clear to see just how much shorter the journey is – especially if you choose to stay in the lower resorts (in particular Champagny-en-Vanoise). Click here to see the most used ski transfer routes to La Plagne. Note – should you be unlucky enough to suffer a delayed ski flight, you could be owed up to 600€ compensation. Click the link for more information.

The roads in this region take a rather circuitous route to avoid the larger mountains and while these major resorts are all extremely close to one another as the crow flies, by the time you take into the extra mileage of the winding valley roads, the transfer times soon add up. With the establishment of the Vanoise National Park, this isn’t set to change anytime soon either.

Average La Plagne transfer times

On average – and presuming you don’t have weather or traffic-related delays – an average transfer to La Plagne from Geneva should take around two and a half hours to three hours. From Chambéry, you can cut that to closer one and a half hours. Remember, this will vary if you’re staying in the lower resorts as compared to the higher stations. Average transfer times for other ski areas

For comparison purposes, check the table below showing average transfers to other Tarentaise ski resorts like Val Thorens, La Rosière and Val d’Isère. As you’ll see, in most cases, La Plagne comes out very favourably in terms of the time taken to get from the airport to your accommodation. Note: the times below are very much taken as an average and journey times will vary considerably if you happen to travel in peak holiday periods or experience bad weather – they are also based on bus transfers rather than private hires which are almost always quicker (and more expensive). Also, multi-village stations like La Plagne, Les Arcs and Tignes also have shorter transfers to the lower villages.
