At 3.5km, Combe is one of the longest runs on the glacier and drops all the way from the top station of the new Glaciers gondola down to the mid-station stop of the lift.

The Combe piste starts with an often-moguled, sometimes-scraped traverse across the top of a large bowl. When there’s fresh snow, there are plenty more direct routes you can take to avoid this path. At the end of this top section, the run opens out to become much wider.

There are then two choices – a direct (and steeper route) down the bowl or a more mellow pathway that doubles back against itself. Note, at the bottom of this section, you need to hold your speed as there soon follows a section that is almost uphill. After this, the piste meanders its way back down on mostly wide sections.

As this terrain is mainly above 3000m, good snow is almost always assured. In fact, the only drawback of La Plagne’s glacier is the aging Bellecôte gondola which is frequently closed. At the end of Combe, you can take this gondola in either direction (either back up to the glacier or towards Roche de Mio) or continue past the mid-station to join the Frêtes blue down to the base of the Chalet de Bellecôte chair.

Pros
  • Snow-sure
  • Sidehits
  • Long – & fast in places
  • Multiple drop-off points
  • Wide after start traverse
Cons
  • Flats on the way down
  • The top traverse can get very busy and is often moguled / rutted
