In general, the highest concentration of black runs in La Plagne is to be found up in the glacier sector and also over the back of Becoin in the bowl behind the Montalbert sector. While the runs here are quite testing, they all share a very similar gradient to one another – apart from Étroits at the head of the valley.

Access to three of these runs – Coqs, Morbleu and Palsembleu – is directly off the top of the Becoin chair (Étroits requires the Crêtes poma for access). As is common with the other blacks in this part of the resort, expect a short flat section at the top before the slope drops away in a medium-length steep section.

While it is steep, there’s nothing particularly challenging about this run – well, not for riders used to tougher blacks in other resorts anyway. At the bottom, Coqs joins the lower section of the Étroits piste – a long pathway which then joins the Halles blue back to the base of the Adrets chair and Envers chair.

Note: all the blacks in this sector are marked as ‘Natur’, meaning they remain unpisted. Consequently, the bumps can get fearsome later in the season. To repeat and do this run again (at a minimum) you need to take Envers, ride back to Plagne Centre then take Becoin back up.

Pros
  • Great views
  • Backcountry feel
  • Amazing after fresh snow
Cons
  • It’s a very long route back to repeat this run
