The top of the short Grande Rochette piste Carina red run is deceptively steep – so steep that it may intimidate even confident intermediate riders (29° is graded black in many resorts).

After the drop from Grande Rochette, the run turns right onto a much shallower gradient – or left onto the similarly steep Kamikaze red down into the Champagny sector. If you find the top section too steep, just sideslip as the rest of the run is much easier by comparison.

After widening onto the flatter section, the run naturally gives access to the Capella blue (right), Pollux blue (straight on) or the Arnica blue (to the left). Carina is a short, fast route off the top of Grande Rochette to get back to the area around Plagne Centre. Alternatively, taking Capella will put you more in the direction of Plagne Villages though you can’t directly access that area without taking another lift.

Pros
  • Incredible scenery
  • Wide & fast
  • Relatively long
  • Options to go to Champagny or Centre
Cons
  • Beginners often get stuck
  • Top is deceptively steep for a red
