The Grande Rochette piste Mira is another of La Plagne’s many pistes where it’s difficult to know exactly where the run starts and ends. The route that most people take down the hill includes a top section that gives access to the Petite Rochette blue at the start and ends up on the Bridge blue link run. Though strictly speaking incorrect, this is the run most people will recognise as being Mira – and is the route shown in the videos here. Mira also happens to be one of La Plagne’s best blue runs.

At the top of Grande Rochette, head out left and follow the wide piste down the ridgeline until you reach a junction. Going right keeps you on Petite Rochette down towards the Champagny sector – going left (the more natural and wider route) drops you onto the Mira piste.

Mira steep pitch for a blue run

The top section is actually pretty steep for a blue so more timid riders might find themselves side-slipping a little to get down. After the initial steep at the top, the run mellows into a very pleasant gradient. Runs criss-cross all over this area but, as a general rule, follow the crowds and stay left.

The run goes past the Bergerie on-hill restaurant (great for a pit-stop and probably La Plagne’s best aprés ski bar) before crossing over the Aollets drag lift. At this point, you’ll cross onto the Bridge piste (ie a different run) – but, as it’s the route most people take, we’ll still call it Mira. Bridge flows down into a wide bowl (freestyle riders should look out for the natural quarters on the right), before funneling down into a shallow gully which takes you to the foot of the Funiplagne and Colorado chair – or Boulevard green piste if you go straight on.

Due to its varied nature (and slightly steeper section at the top), most riders will enjoy lapping this long run through the heart of La Plagne. The high-speed cabins of the Funiplagne absorb queues well in all but the busiest periods of the season so wait times are normally kept to a minimum.
