At the summit of Les Verdons, you have three options for heading back down to the Plagne Centre side of the mountain: the Kamikaze red leading to Carina blue and the various blues off Grande Rochette, the tough Mercédès black or the easier Grande Rochette piste Verdons blue run. Most people take Verdons.

To ride this enjoyable, flowing blue run head left as you get off the Verdons Nord chair. The run turns left into a natural gully section before turning right as it passes under Verdons Nord chair. This section is the only semi-steep part of the run and the gradient soon shallows. However, this variation of terrain and steepness makes it one of La Plagne’s best blue runs, an enjoyable ride for improving skiers and snowboarders. Note – there are also some interesting La Plagne off-piste variations to the sides of this run although you should ensure you hire a La Plagne guide to tackle these safely.

Towards the bottom (near the crossing with the Mercédès piste), there is a well-signposted turn-off onto the Marie Chantal blue. Alternatively, stick on the main run which joins the base of the Gavotte red (officially rated red though, really, it’s not difficult). This run is suitable for most levels of rider and stays wide to the bottom.

Pros
  • Long, fast, wide
  • Summit views
  • Sidehits – lots
  • Drops – lots
  • Interesting terrain
  • A main route to Centre
  • Full run ends near cafes
  • Good for all levels
  • Easy access off-piste
Cons
  • Top steep for a blue
  • Beginners often get stuck
  • Verdons chair super slow
  • In bad weather avoid
