When you’re looking to book a snowboard holiday, it’s important to pick a resort that has the right terrain. Unlike skiers who have poles to help them get around, snowboarders need run consistency and a general avoidance of flat spots to save constantly unclipping.

In terms of whether La Plagne is a good resort for snowboarding, like many other ski areas, it really depends on your level of riding. Yes, there are frequent flat spots around the resort – but, if you’ve got the skills and confidence to ride quickly, you’ll get over most of them without any problems. You can read more about particularly bad areas in our La Plagne runs to avoid article which gives comprehensive information on the worst runs in terms of flat spots.

Find out whether La Plagne is good for snowboarders and snowboarding

Unless you’re a complete beginner, you’ll likely love La Plagne’s wide-open terrain and variety of runs. Personally, I’ve never quite understood why anyone books a ski or snowboard holiday without at least having a few lessons in the UK anyway. There are now so many dryslopes and indoor centres with great instructors on hand that there’s really no excuse to go spending all that time and money on a foreign winter holiday without first honing basic skills at home. Not only will you save wasting the first few days abroad picking up the skills needed, you’ll also get to see much more of the area and be able to comfortably handle a much bigger range of runs. As with most other ski areas, the best scenery in La Plagne is found at altitude – and that means having basic abilities to get down some of the steeper terrain.

All that said, if you are a total beginner, there is a great range of snowboard instructors in La Plagne (all the various villages are served by ski and snowboard schools) so you won’t have any bother getting a good snowboard teacher. Still, just personal opinion, but you really are far better getting the basics dialed at home before arriving.

At the other end of the scale, expert snowboarders will probably find La Plagne’s runs a little limiting and will instead want to head for the excellent backcountry riding around Champagny and the Bellecôte glacier. Actually, there’s a lot of great off-piste riding in La Plagne – some of it extremely accessible just to the sides of the main runs. Check the video above filmed in the Montchavin sector with easy access off-piste tree riding.

The best places in La Plagne for snowboarding

Is La Plagne good for snowboarding?

On-piste or off-piste, the snowboarding in the Champagny, Montchavin and Montalbert sectors is some of the best in the whole of Paradiski never mind just La Plagne. Remember too the option to head over to Les Arcs for the day where the pistes tend to be, on average, a little steeper. Really, the places for you will depend largely on your level of riding. However, if like most skiers and snowboarders, you fall into the bracket of intermediate, then you can read this handy guide on the best blue pistes in La Plagne that will be more than enough to keep you busy.
