La Plagne Chalet De La Grande Rochette
The Chalet De La Grande Rochette bar and restaurant sits at the summit of Grande Rochette mountain with impressive views over the front side of La Plagne.
The view includes Plagne Centre, Plagne Villages, Plagne Soleil, Plagne 1800 and Aime 2000. It also has a vista stretching out over the Isère valley towards Mont Blanc and over to Les Arcs.
The majority of runs in the Grand Rochette sector are accessible from here by linking pistes. This can give an impressive total vertical down to Plagne 1800.
Chalet De La Grande Rochette is one of our favourite bars and restaurants in La Plagne. It also has the added advantage that it’s even accessible by non-skiers or snowboarders via the Funiplagne Grande Rochette out of Plagne Centre.
While prices might not be the cheapest, the food is good and they serve a wide range of drinks too. There are few better places in the resort to take in the views as the sun sets at the end of a hard day skiing or snowboarding.
Once you’re done, it’s possible to ski or snowboard direct back to Plagne Centre, Plagne Villages, Plagne Soleil, Plagne 1800. Access to Plagne Bellecôte (and therefore Belle Plagne via the Belle Plagne gondola), makes this a great place to end the day. You can even ride all the way down to Champagny-en-Vanoise – so long as you beat the ski patrol closing the hill.
Even if you don’t actually stop here for food or drinks, there’s a large picnic area to take in the views. In particular, the view off the back towards the Champagny sector is great (as shown below).
