Les Arcs is La Plagne’s neighbouring resort and, until the opening of the mighty Vanoise Express cable car in season 2003/04, was a completely separate ski area. However, with the opening of this lift, La Plagne and Les Arcs joined together to form the world’s third-largest ski area – the world-renowned Paradiski domain. The piste map is below.

How big is the Paradiski ski area?

Together, La Plagne and Les Arcs Paradiski offer 425km of pistes spread over a massive 35,559 acres of terrain. There truly is something for everyone across these ski areas from La Plagne’s great intermediate runs to testing off-piste and Les Arcs’ expansive terrain which, in the main, tends to be a little more difficult.

The route from La Plagne to Les Arcs

To get to Les Arcs from La Plagne is quick and easy taking the Vanoise Express lift from above Montchavin. Unless you’re staying in Montchavin, to reach this lift the easiest route is via Plagne Bellecôte and the Arpette chair. From there, you can just ride the Mont Blanc piste down (there are other routes as detailed in the video). The ride across to Les Arcs on the Vanoise Express cable car should take between five and ten minutes.

The differences between La Plagne / Les Arcs

The differences between La Plagne and Les Arcs are stark. In resort terms, La Plagne tends to be much more family-focussed while Les Arcs has more in the way of nightlife (for example, the Folie Douce bar/restaurant). Also, Les Arcs’ terrain tends to be slightly more difficult while La Plagne has a wealth of intermediate pistes that even progressing beginners will enjoy.
