With the addition of the Lovatière chair out of Plagne Centre routes off Les Verdons are now significantly easier to access. The old Verdons Nord chair was painfully slow – plus started way above the main station meaning skiers and snowboarders had no option but to take a first lift to get up this high, on this side.

Anyways, the Champagny sector remains one of my personal favourite areas in La Plagne with some of the most accessible off-piste and incredible, jaw-dropping views. This route via the Bozelet blue and Les Bois red has the potential to enjoy both and is an alternative to taking the more direct Mont de la Guerre option. Better yet, it has one of La Plagne’s biggest vertical drops at 1250m.

It’s also worth remembering runs on this side are predominantly south-facing – plus tend to stay considerably quieter than the front of the mountain – so are a good bet during the busy holiday periods in La Plagne i.e. the festive Christmas period, February mid-terms and Easter.

Take the Bozelet blue off Les Verdons

Depending which side you access Les Verdons from, you’ll want to turn either right or left (right from Plagne Centre, left from the Verdons Sud on the Champagny side). The Bozelet blue is one of the most fun runs in La Plagne and should be done no matter what level of rider you are. Heading down this long piste is a joy and will eventually take you towards the base of the Verdons Sud chair. But we’re not done here. Rather, we’ll continue onto the annoyingly flat . . .

 

Ravine pathway towards the Borseliers chair

Unfortunately, there’s little chance you’ll make it over the super-flat Ravine ‘piste’ so a short walk or ski-skate will be required to get over to the start of the . . .

 

Les Bois run to Champagny

Speak to anyone that knows La Plagne and they’ll likely have mixed opinions of the Les Bois red run. For me personally, this piste is a lot of fun with hits and multiple drop-off points on the way down should you get tired of sticking to the main route. I would think most snowboarders would agree. However, some people might complain about the narrow nature of the pathway – particularly the lower section – and it is true this run can get super icy in places with the freeze-thaw conditions that are typical in both late and early season down this low. In particular, there’s one section that almost always stays in shade as you near the long flat path towards Champagny that can get very icy until later in the day.

All that said, get this run with fresh snow and it’s immense. Plus following this last ride down will give you that immense vertical drop and the chance to see Champagny-en-Vanoise village, nestled below the towering peaks that surround it. Once you’re done, simply jump on the Champagny gondola to gain access back to Champagny runs and lifts.
