La Plagne opening and closing dates 2021/22 season

New-Project-7-1200x675.jpg

As the winter draws nearer and – hopefully – with the worst of the COVID measures now behind us, it’s time to start getting stoked about the coming season and the great scenery, lively on-hill aprés ski and resort aprés ski that should hopefully be just around the corner.

The 225km of pisted terrain and 135 runs await for your next La Plagne ski holiday – a number that pretty much doubles when you also take into account the Vanoise Express and Les Arcs. But just when will La Plagne open for the 2021/22 season?

What are the season dates in La Plagne for winter 2021/22?

La Plagne opening and closing dates 2021/22 season - what is open in La Plagne early season

As with every year I can personally remember, the La Plagne resort opening is in stages, dependant on where you’re staying. The dates are below.

La Plagne altitude resort opening and closing dates:
From 11th December 2021 through to 30th April 2022
Altitude resorts comprise Plagne Bellecôte, Belle Plagne, Plagne Villages, Plagne Soleil, Plagne 1800, Plagne Centre and Aime 2000

La Plagne valley resort opening and closing dates:
From 18th December 2021 through to 23rd April 2022
Valley resorts comprise Plagne Montalbert, Montchavin, Les Coches, La Roche and Champagny-en-Vanoise

This opening means everything above around 2000m on the front of the mountain is open in the first week of the season – as much to guarantee snow cover as anything else. Note – the Champagny sector remains closed, despite being high enough in the upper sections.

You should also remember that with the Montchavin sector shut for the first week, the Vanoise Express link to Les Arcs is out of action – so you’ll be riding mostly just the bowls above Plagne Centre and Plagne Bellecôte.

In recent years, there’s been a tendency for La Plagne to receive a big dump in November then things to go quiet until January (the epic 2018 season being an exception).

Nonetheless, in the run-up to opening, La Plagne always has the snow cannon on 24/7 to ensure they get a good base and the first week is one of the quietest in the whole season so you can expect very quiet pistes and lifts. The image at the top of this page shows just how quiet with the normally rammed Bergerie lift almost deserted.

Similarly, the lower resorts also close a week earlier – although, by then, the resort is pretty much winding down and you’ll find many of the bars and restaurants have already called it a day.
