Les Arcs Transarc renovation: While La Plagne’s management company, SAP, has been busy over recent years with updates to the Verdons Nord chairlift (now the high-speed, detachable Lovatière chair) and the renovation of the glacier area, Les Arcs too has been investing heavily in its infrastracture.

The new Les Arcs Transarc lift

This season, Les Arcs welcomes the addition of a completely renovated Transarc lift, one of the key ways up the mountain out of Arc 1800. Previously, this aging lift used to suffer from fairly horrendous queues – particularly in the morning rush with skiers and snowboarders eager to make their way to the higher reaches of the Les Arcs ski area. However, with the addition of this new lift, bottlenecks should be considerably reduced.

Transarc – a faster ride to the Aiguille Rouge bowl

The new Transarc follows the same route as the old lift but now completes the journey in a blistering 13 minutes instead of the previous 20 minute ascent. Also, the new lifts have a capacity of 10 seats and use considerably less energy. Click here to see the Les Arcs piste map.

Getting to Les Arcs from La Plagne

If you’re at improving beginner stage or above, we highly recommend taking the route to Les Arcs from La Plagne to experience the other side of Paradiski. Together, these two resorts make the 3rd largest ski area in the world. However, while they might be neighbours, Les Arcs is rather different to La Plagne with slightly more testing terrain and an entirely different vibe. It’s well worth getting the Paradiski pass to spend time in the area.

The Vanoise Express – linking La Plagne to Les Arcs

The mighty Vanoise Express is a double-decker cable car that was once the world’s largest télépherique. The ride alone is worth the experience – perhaps more so on the lower deck with its window in the floor that gives views high above the Ponthurin valley below. The ride takes around five mins and effectively doubles the size of skiable area. La Plagne has 225km of pistes while Les Arcs has 200km, giving a total of 425km of runs in this massive ski area.

Les Arcs webcams and weather forecast

While La Plagne and Les Arcs are essentially right next to each other, the weather can still vary in the mountain so it’s worth checking the Les Arcs webcams and Les Arcs weather forecast before making the trip. In particular, conditions can vary significantly at altitude.
