The slow Montchavin lift Bauches is a chairlift that rises from the valley floor far below Plagne Bellecôte / Roche de Mio sector and the Bellecôte glacier. The main point of this chair is to give access back from some of La Plagne’s toughest off-piste routes down from both summits.

The Bauches blue piste itself is more of a pathway and not really the kind of run you’d spend any time on – but this lift will give access should you decide to ride it. There are good backcountry opportunities on both sides of this valley – definitely worth trying though you’ll need a guide to be safe. After the Bauches chair, take the Crozats chair to get back up and access other Montchavin pistes or drop over the other side to Plagne Bellecôte village.

Pros
  • Queues very rare
  • Imposing views
  • Access back from some of La Plagne’s toughest off-piste
Cons
  • Very slow chair
  • Almost always in shade
