The Bauches blue piste is located just below the Crozats chair in the Montchavin sector of La Plagne (note the lift company classifies Montchavin as stretching from the front of the mountain round into the valley below the Roche de Mio sector).

The piste is a fairly uninspiring track that snakes its way down a much steeper gradient. In times of fresh snow, there’s good off-piste to be had here by taking a more direct route down the hill. However, in truth, the main reason for the Bauches chair (and hence this run) is really to provide quicker access back from the multiple La Plagne off-piste routes down from the Bellecôte glacier and Roche de Mio. The chair saves riders from having to take the very flat, long Route des Bauches piste back to near the Vanoise Express cable car. Note, to do those tougher runs, you definitely need to hire a La Plagne guide.

Pros
  • Pathway piste
  • Easy access off-piste
  • Usually quiet
  • Lift back normally quiet
  • Multiple drop-offs and sidehits
Cons
  • Very isolated
  • Slow lift back
  • Can get icy
  • Almost always in shade
