Montchavin piste Malatray
The Malatray black piste is accessed from a turn-off on the Teppes blue piste, near the Carolley restaurant on the right as you ride down in La Plagne’s Montchavin sector. In fact, the easiest way to find this rather well-hidden run is to head in the direction of the restaurant as the start can be quite hard to find and is very easy to miss.
While the Malatray run starts on a mellow gradient, it soon steepens and takes more or less a direct route down to the valley floor – save for a short turn to the right. There is a fairly long steep section before the run joins the Bauches blue at its final turn back to the foot of the chair of the same name. To ride it again, you’ll need to take the Bauches chair followed by the Crozats chair to the top. While the main run is relatively enjoyable, you will likely find better, very accessible La Plagne off-piste options close by – although you will need to hire the services of a knowledgable La Plagne guide to do these safely.
