The Montchavin piste Montchavin is a great red piste through the trees in the lower third of the Montchavin sector. The run is accessed from the Mont Blanc blue – you can find it by turning left off the main run as you near the route to the Vanoise Express (it’s easy to see and well signposted). It is also one of La Plagne’s best advanced runs.

This long, fast red is also served by the Montchavin chair and runs all the way down to Montchavin village base. Due to its low altitude, it can become icy in times of low snow – or, later in the season, especially first thing in the morning. Depending on where you’re staying, this piste might be your fastest way home as it runs directly past some of the higher and more remote accommodation above the main Montchavin village.

Pros
  • Sidehits
  • Great views
  • Wide open piste
  • Undulating terrain
  • Usually pretty quiet
  • Lift back normally quiet
  • Easy access off-piste
  • Drops (look for them)
  • Fun route to Montchavin
Cons
  • Can get very icy
  • Beginners often get stuck
  • People stopping at steeps
