Pistes in the Montalbert sector are pretty much all blues or reds – with the exception of the two nursery areas at the summit of Fornelet and base in Montchavin. As a general rule, the reds tend to take a more direct route down the hill and are crossed frequently by the zig-zagging blues which wind their way down the mountain. In all cases, the easiest and quickest way to access the runs is via the Montalbert gondola. The Plagne Montalbert piste Gentil is one of the best blue runs in La Plagne and one of the main routes down to the village of Montalbert.

Accessing the Gentil piste

The Gentil run starts from the top of the Gentil drag lift, though it actually goes much further past this lift, ending near the top of the Montalbert drag lift above Plagne Montalbert village. If you just want to ride the top section, you can take the Gentil drag back up – but really, you’d be far better riding down to the base and taking the gondola back up.

On the way down, you’ll pass under two imaginatively painted bridges as the run passes under the Grangette drag lift and Stade de Montalbert piste. Taking the gondola back up drops you at the top of the main Montalbert blue back down – a run that soon branches into various other blue routes – a joy for intermediates.

Note, all the runs in this sector are cut tracks through the trees, meaning this is a great area to come to on bad weather days. There’s also the potential for first tracks after fresh snow to try some La Plagne off-piste riding – plus, as this area is always quiet, the fresh always lasts longer here than in any other part of La Plagne.

Pros
  • Wide piste
  • Usually quiet
  • Lift back normally quiet
  • Great for intermediates
  • Fun piste under 2 bridges
  • Link up with other runs for a huge vertical
Cons
  • You need to do multiple runs from the top to reach Gentil
  • This is not really a bad thing 😉
