Choosing a resort for your next ski or snowboard break is never an easy task – particularly if you’re a family or group of mixed ability or ages. Different people want different things from their winter trip and trying to keep everyone happy often feels like an impossible challenge. Thankfully, La Plagne meets most criteria admirably well and should keep even the most diverse group of skiers or snowboarders happy.

Resons to choose La Plagne for your next winter holiday

If you’re still trying to work out if La Plagne is the best choice for your next ski or snowboard holiday, below are just a few of the main reasons this resort continually pulls skiers and snowboarders back year after year and remains the world’s most popular, most visited ski resort.

La Plagne Altitude: The vast majority of La Plagne’s terrain is above the 1800m mark topping out at 3250m

La Plagne is snow-sure: Even in the worst of snow years, with so much high-level terrain, good snow is virtually guaranteed

La Plagne snowmaking: If altitude alone isn’t enough, La Plagne has extensive artificial snowmaking capabilities

La Plagne low-level tree riding: The Montalbert and Montchavin areas of La Plagne have extensive tree cover for when the weather closes in. These also happen to be some of the most enjoyable areas to ride – plus offer great off-piste riding in the forests.

La Plagne has a long season: If you don’t want to be limited to just the school holidays, La Plagne offers just short of five months of uninterrupted skiing and snowboarding.

La Plagne lift network: While it’s true their can be bottlenecks in the busier times of the season (i.e. Christmas and the February mid-terms), La Plagne’s fast, efficient lift network deals with the crowds well. You just need to learn lifts to avoid in La Plagne during these periods.

La Plagne aprés: While La Plagne’s nightlife might not be as raucous as other well-known resorts like Méribel or Val d’Isère, there’s still enough to keep most people happy. And anyway, a ski or snowboard holiday is about skiing and snowboarding – for most, nightlife isn’t a huge priority.

La Plagne is great for families: One area where La Plagne absolutely excels is catering for families or mixed groups

La Plagne is great for intermediates: Even just a cursory look at the piste will let you see that La Plagne is a great intermediate resort skiers and snowboarders with the vast majority of the runs being graded blue with a few testier reds thrown in for good measure.

La Plagne scenery: La Plagne may not have the most aesthetically-pleasing resort villages but that doesn’t detract from the area’s fabulous scenery with views over Mt Blanc, Trois Vallées, Grande Casse, Les Arcs, Tignes, La Rosière and Les Arcs.

La Plagne transfer time: Of all the Tarentaise resorts, La Plagne has one of the shortest transfer times. Still not short by any means but less than the likes of Val Thorens, Tignes, La Rosière, etc
