Bellecôte glacier lift Glacier

New-Project-2021-08-20T185514.688-1200x675.jpg

This lift was removed for the 2023/24 season to try and preserve what little is left of the Glacier de la Chiaupe. The Bellecôte glacier lift Glacier four-man chair used to take you to the second-highest point in La Plagne – as well as giving you the most spectacular views across the domain, Trois Vallées, Champagny, Grande Casse, the Isère valley, Mont Blanc and Les Arcs. The only way was down from here on either the Déversoir red or Chiaupe black. Neither of these runs were as tough as their grading might suggest – however this still wasn’t the territory for beginner riders.

The Glacier chair took a direct line up the hill to reach the summit in around 4 minutes. La Plagne used to offer glacial summer riding in this area however, due to global warming, this isn’t actually a bona fide glacier anymore (the ice retreated long ago). Due to the altitude though, good snow was pretty much assured through the winter months – presuming it was open. Unfortunately, the glacier area was frequently closed.

Pros
  • Great scenery
  • Accesses highest runs
  • Queues are rare
Cons
  • Aging lift
  • Rather slow
