The Champagny piste Bosses expert run is one of only 18 black pistes in La Plagne domain. However, in truth, the gradient of this slope isn’t what makes it intimidating – rather, it’s the moguls (‘bosses’ in French literally means ‘bumps).

The first quarter of the piste is relatively steep but the gradient soon mellows so that, by the second half of the run, it’s definitely more on the grade of red or even blue rather than black.

Bosses is marked Natur – meaning it’s never pisted. Consequently, unless you really like steep bump riding, the best time to hit this run is early-season or after fresh snowfall. It’s definitely one to be avoided when conditions are icy as the bumps really can get quite large and difficult – particularly later in the season.

Access is from the summit of Les Verdons by either taking the Verdons Nord chair (soon to be replaced) or Verdons Sud chair followed by the top section of the Bozelet blue before veering left at the signpost.

Pros
  • One of very few blacks
  • Steep at the top
  • Great views
  • Never busy
Cons
  • Bumps hardest part
  • V irregular moguls
  • Bottom 2/3 isn’t black
  • Only steep at top
