The runs fanning out from the top of the Arpette chair are some of the best confidence-building pistes in any resort, anywhere. These easy-going blues mix long, cruising flats interspersed with slightly steeper sections on the way down – perfect for testing new skills and reinforcing what you’ve learned.

Lainés is a variation of the main Arpette piste which branches left off the main run (as shown in the videos below). Though not shown in the piste map, it can be used to get back to Belle Plagne by staying continuously left whenever you reach any junctions (it’s not entirely clear if this is still considered Lainés).

As with the other pistes off Arpette, it has impressive views over to Grande Rochette, Les Verdons, Biolley and the main La Plagne bowl. Beginner / early intermediate riders will love it as the majority of the piste is wide open with a gentle gradient that inspires confidence.

Indeed, the only drawback of this piste is the busy lift that awaits to get back up. The Arpette and Bergerie chairs flip for top spot as the busiest lifts in La Plagne and, as a main arterial lift out of Bellecôte (it’s the primary way to get over to Montchavin / Les Arcs) it suffers badly from queues, at almost any time of day. As a result, if you want to maximise your riding time, you may well be better off choosing other options. After all, La Plagne has a plethora of good blue runs scattered all around the resort.

Pros
  • Very wide piste
  • Ride anywhere
  • Normally sunny
  • Beautiful scenery
  • Interesting routes
  • Easy access off-piste
  • Undulating terrain
  • Sidehits (lower down)
  • Novelty of riding through Belle Plagne
Cons
  • Always very busy
  • Popular with ski schools
  • Huge Arpette lift queues
