The aging Plagne Bellecôte lift Belle Plagne gondola is considered the first stage of the long Roche de Mio gondola. This lift ascends to the summit of the same name.

La Plagne Belle Plagne gondola

Update: Despite the construction of the new Roche de Mio gondola (due for the 2025/26 season), the Belle Plagne gondola will still run and operate as a link between Bellecôte and Belle Plagne. The new lift will take an entirely different route up to near Col de Forcle before then progressing up to Roche de Mio.

The Belle Plagne gondola is already over 40 years old and in bad need of renovation or, better yet, replacement however, it still forms one of the key routes out of Plagne Bellecôte and Belle Plagne. In busy holiday periods, the queues here can be horrendous with riders converging from both satellites (and from further afield) to get up to the Plagne Bellecôte / Roche de Mio sector. Note – there are plans to replace this lift – possibly after the 2023/24 season.

Tips to avoid the Belle Plagne gondola queues

If you want to avoid wasting valuable riding time (queues can at times be upwards of half an hour), a good tip is to take Les Blanchets instead followed by the Carella chair from the Champagny sector up to Roche de Mio. Les Blanchets is the quietest lift in the Bellecôte hub while Carella is also normally quiet – particularly early morning.

Alternatively, if you’re staying in Belle Plagne, it’s possible to ride over to the Belle Plagne carpet lift then head to the Col de Forcle poma and drop into Champagny on the Geisha blue. Col de Forcle is always quiet and will give you the long enjoyable Geisha piste down to either the Verdons Sud chair or Borseliers chair in the Champagny sector.

The Belle Plagne gondola also stays open until 00.45 most nights to give access between Bellecôte and Belle Plagne (the satellite widely regarded as having the best nightlife in La Plagne).

Pros
  • Useful link lift
  • Open til midnight
Cons
  • Slow & dated
  • Low capacity
  • Needs upgraded
  • Uncomfortable & loud
  • Queues can get horrendous
